I took my University education at Florence University, where I graduated in Classical Studies (1979) and obtained a specialisation in Greek Papyrology and Paleography in 1984. For several years (1979-1984) I served as a member of the Italian Archaeological Mission in Egypt (Antinoupolis) on behalf of the G.Vitelli Papyrological Institute. I then spent a few years at the University of Urbino at the Institute of Classical Philology, directed at that time by Prof. Bruno Gentili, where I passed my PhD examination in 1986 (Greek Literature: “Edition of a medical treatise on papyrus”—Supervisor Prof. B. Gentili). My subsequent academic career took place mostly at the University of Florence. I became Researcher (1992), member of the scientific board (1992-1998) and of the Committee on Post-graduate Education (1993/4; 1995/6) at the G.Vitelli Institute of the University. In 1998 I was on the Committee for the Organisation of the XXII International Papyrological Congress (Florence, August 1998) and on the editorial board of the Proceedings published in 2001. In 2005 I moved to the University of Parma as Associate Professor of Papyrology, and this is my present academic position (“Department of Arts and Literature, History and Social Studies”, since 2012). Since 2006 I enjoy a close collaboration with the Center for the Tebtunis Papyri at the University of Berkeley, CA, thanks to the establishment of a research agreement, and with the UCL-Department of Greek and Latin within the frame of an Erasmus exchange programme. In summer 2010, on the invitation of J. Sosin, I attended the training session of Duke University at Durham, for the edition of papyri via SoSOL/PE (IDP2-Programme, now developed as IDP3). I am author of more than 115 scientific publications that have been internationally recognised (they were cited more than 300 times, and 140 times in the last 10 years). I published over 30 articles in peer reviewed journals (BASP, YClS, ZPE) or series (ANRW). I edited unpublished papyri in the Oxyrhynchus Papyri series (1982; 1994). I produced essays in the Proceedings of the International Congresses of Papyrology (Cairo 1992, Copenhagen 1994, Berlin 1997, Florence 2001, Geneva 2012), as well as of several international Conferences on Ancient Medicine (Pisa 1996, Paris, 1994, 2001, 2007; Naples, 1984, 1990, 1997, 2004; Udine 2006). I lectured at Duke University (2002) and I was an invited-speaker at the meetings of Paris-CNRS (1999), Klagenfurt (2004), London/Turner Colloquium (2005), Udine (2005), Freudenstadt (2007), British Academy of London (2011) and Heidelberg (2011; 2012). During the last 7 years I supervised the work of 10 MS students in Papyrology and 4 PhD students. Three of them have published their research on Tebtunis papyri in peer reviewed journals (Bonati-Iori, BASP 2010; Bernini, ZPE 2010; Bonati, ZPE 2011). N. Reggiani (PhD, Ancient History) was awarded a grant for the Papyrological Summer School in Stanford (2008) and then selected for the International Seminar on Unpublished Papyri in the Cairo Egyptian Museum (2010-2013), sponsored by the International Association of Papyrologists (N. Reggiani published in MBAH 29, 2011). Because I have worked at a number of different Universities (Florence, Parma) and have collaborated with scholars in foreign research centers, I have gained several areas of expertise (a. Greek medical papyri and the History of Ancient Medicine; b. publication of papyri from the “Tebtunis temple library”, and of the late antique Ammon's papyrus archive; c. development of new tools for use by papyrologists and students: www.papirologia.unipr.it workspace keeps its users up-to-date on the research advances of the Parma team; Papyrotheke is a new digital environment, the mandate of which is to provide a broad forum for presenting scholarly results as well as addressing an audience of non-specialists).
